ICF: Arranging child and infant funerals

Level 3 - 6 Credits

This sensitive and comprehensive course equips funeral professionals with the knowledge to support bereaved parents through the loss of a child. Covering legal processes, documentation, cremation and burial options, grief support, and best practices in infant and child funeral care, it ensures compassionate and informed guidance during an incredibly difficult time.

CURRICULUM
Learning Outcome 1: Know the terminology used to describe the age or gestation of a foetus, infant or child
Learning Outcome 2: Be able to comply with regulations, legislation, codes of practice and own funeral business’ policies and procedures for the identification of a child
Learning Outcome 3: Understand the registration process and documentation specifically relevant to the death of a child
Learning Outcome 4: Be able to comply with regulations and legislation relevant to the circumstances of the child’s death
Learning Outcome 5: Be able to advise parents on how their child is cared for during the funeral process
Learning Outcome 6: Understand empathy when advising parents on funeral arrangements for a child
Learning Outcome 7: Be able to provide parents with information regarding the choice between burial and cremation
Learning Outcome 8: Know how to complete all documentation required for the funeral arrangements of a child
Learning Outcome 9: Know the current legal definition of cremated remains for the benefit of parental understanding
Learning Outcome 10: Understand the current legal definition of cremated remains for the benefit of parental understanding
Learning Outcome 11: Know how to arrange or oversee a funeral for an infant or child in accordance with the wishes of the parent(s)
Learning Outcome 12: Understand the reasons for and the outcomes of the Bonomy Enquiry (conducted by the Scottish Government) into infant cremations in 2013/2014
